| In 1993, RCA Victor re-issued on compact disc its 1977 recording of Verdi's Requiem with Leontyne Price, Janet Baker, Veriano Luchetti, José Van Dam, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Georg Solti. I eagerly bought the LP when it was first issued, and I was very happy with the performance. CD set available from amazon.com |

| Naxos has re-issued a very good 1939 recording of the Verdi Requiem, with the Chorus and Orchestra of the Rome Opera conducted by Tullio Serafin. The soloists are Maria Caniglia (who sings a very moving "Libera me"), Ebe Stignani, Beniamino Gigli, and Ezio Pinza. The recording is shorter than most. It was originally made for release on 78's, and Serafin omitted some of the repeats. Available from amazon.com as a "special order." |
