The Palm Beach Post reported: "Bass Samuel Ramey has canceled his Sunday [December 29, 2002] recital at the Kravis Center [in West Palm Beach] because he's ill. Mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves will perform at the 8 p.m. show instead. . . . She'll announce the program from the stage. Warren Jones, who was to accompany Ramey, will lend support on the piano."
In a review of the recital for the Palm Beach Daily News, R. Spencer Butler wrote: "Graves has a truly exceptional voice. It is a velvety rich, vibrant mezzo-soprano beautifully placed, with a deeply resonant lower register. Her musical intuition and intelligence are equally remarkable. Add to the above a winning charm and dazzling appearance." |
