Stabat Mater
by Karol Szymanowski
From 1924 to 1926, Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937) set to music a Polish translation of the Stabat Mater. The work was performed for the first time by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra in 1929 under the direction of Grzegorz Fitelberg.  It calls for chorus, orchestra, and three soloists—soprano, contralto, and baritone.
