"Recordings of the War Requiem have been blessed with luck, and the latest one ranks among the greatest," Bangkok Post

Review in French, Adrien De Vries, classiquenews.com

Review, Andrew Clark, ft.com, 5 stars

"The choral singing is fervent and intense, the playing fierce and sensitive by turns. Sabina Cvilak is the thrilling, hieratic soprano, though her male counterparts aren't quite as successful. Ian Bostridge sounds less mannered on disc than he did in the hall, though you're very aware of moments of strain. The baritone solos lie awkwardly low for Simon Keenlyside, robbing him of vocal heft at points when he really needs it."--Tim Ashley, guardian.co.uk, 4 stars

"Now a live recording of Mr. Noseda's account of the 'War Requiem' at the Barbican has been released. It takes an honorable place alongside Britten's historic recording from 1963 with the London Symphony."--Anthony Tommasini, New York Times

"Sans que l'on puisse considérer ce nouvel enregistrement comme étant une trahison de l'œuvre originale, on ne peut vraiment la recommander au regard de la version originale de Benjamin Britten."--Jacques Schmitt, resmusica.com

"Die Hoffnung siegt" von Werner Theurich, spiegel.de

". . . in revisiting the work through this recording (made live in London two weeks after the New York concert), I . . . hear a riveting performance."--Anastasia Tsioulcas, wwno.org

I find it undesirable that I have to turn the volume up much higher than for most recordings when I listen to this recording. It's not so bad as another LSO recording that I recall, but it really does seem that there is something seriously wrong with the way LSO makes its recordings.--JRP
