Simon Keenlyside / Julius Drake, Temple Church, London, reviewed by Edward Seckerson, independent.co.uk, 5 stars

“Switching between Handel, Scarlatti, Vivaldi, Caldara, Conti and Gasparini, Bostridge avoids that wearying tendency to fizz the music up breathlessly, opting instead for clean edges and eloquence. The English Concert, conducted by Bernard Labadie, add real verve.”–Fiona Maddocks, The Observer, guardian.co.uk, brief review of Ian Bostridge’s new CD Three Baroque Tenors.

“Guillaume Tell, Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome,” brief review by Shirley Apthorp, ft.com, 3 stars. The review seems positive in every way and offers no explanation as to why the critic gave the performance only three stars. Maybe she does not find the music so interesting but is not willing to say so? Who knows?

Antonio Pappano renews exclusive contract with EMI

“After a 15-year collaboration that catapulted Renée Fleming from just another plush-voiced soprano to a glamorous, genre-crossing household name, the singer is parting ways with legendary publicist Mary Lou Falcone.”–Zachary Woolfe, observer.com

The Logitech S220 2.1 speaker system with subwoofer that I ordered from amazon.com arrived in the mail today. I hooked it up to my laptop and the sound is improved significantly. The speakers and subwoofer are too bulky to be portable. I won’t take them if I’m using the laptop out of the house.
